Tottenham vs Newcastle: Preview, Possible Lineups & Prediction

Tottenham Host Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on tuesday 10th February 2026. The 7:30pm kick off on that date is at 7:30pm GMT ( 8.30pm WAT ). Both teams are currently struggling this season with pressure piling on for managers Thomas Frank and Eddie Howe.

Spurs are having a pretty rubbish time of it at the moment in the league, having failed to pick up a win yet this year, and are currently perched precariously just 6 points clear of the relegation zone. Whilst Newcastle are on a pretty poor run at the moment, having lost their last 3 league games and struggling to perform on the road.

Match Summary

Where does it all go wrong for Spurs though. They occupy a worryingly low 15th place in the league, having amassed only 29 points in 25 games. To say they need a home win to steady the ship after a string of poor results would be an understatement – they’ve had early cup exits to boot. They’ve had some problems at the back and lack that creative spark that makes teams tick – which is not what you want to hear when several key players are out injured.

Newcastle meanwhile sit further up the table a fair bit higher in mid-table at 12th with a respectable 33 points. However their form has taken quite a dive of late and they are struggling to hold on to leads ( theyve dropped a league-high 19 points from winning positions in the league this term so far). The reverse fixture back in December 2025 was a cracker – a 2-2 draw with Cristian Romero rescuing a draw for Spurs late on.

It’s a fixture that historically produces the goods though – 196 goals in 61 Premier League meetings and you can be sure there has never ever been a 0-0 draw in that time. Expect some action and goals then. Tottenham have lost 5 of their last 7 league games against Newcastle but hopes in Tottenham are that home advantage might flip the script – they really need this one.

Looking at the head-to-head record, its fair to say that one thing you can be pretty much certain of is that it will be a lively match – over 2.5 goals often lands in these ones, and both teams look to be capable of scoring despite looking pretty wobbly.

Possible Lineups

Tottenham Hotspur ( probably 4-3-3 or 3-4-2-1): Vicario – Gray, Dragusin, Van de Ven – Spence/Souza, Palhinha, Gallagher, Sarr – Odobert, Simons – Solanke

The big issue for Spurs though is Cristian Romero is suspended and also out are Destiny Udogie (injury) and a bunch of long term absentees like Maddison, Kulusevski, Bentancur, Richarlison, Porro, Bergvall, and so on. Thomas Frank has had to get creative (with some makeshift solutions ) when it comes to his back line.

Newcastle United ( probably 4-3-3): Pope – Trippier, Thiaw, Botman/Burn, Hall – Tonali, Guimarães, Ramsey/Willock – Elanga, Woltemade, Barnes

Eddie Howe on the other hand is dealing with a number of injuries to key players – including Anthony Gordon, Fabian Schär, Joelinton, and a bunch of other players who are also a bit iffy like Miley. The Magpies are rotating their team due to fatigue but still have a few quality players to fall back on like Bruno Guimarães and Harvey Barnes for quick breaks.

Prediction

This one is a must win for both teams but the home crowd and Spurs desperation to avoid relegation might just give them the edge they need. Dominic Solanke has been scoring for fun against Newcastle of late and might be the man to exploit their leaky defence. Newcastle on the other hand have some talented players like Bruno Guimarães to pull the strings but theyve been prone to late game meltdowns which might just prove their undoing. Expect an open game with goals – but Spurs scrape a vital win to ease off the pressure.

Final score prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Newcastle United
