Chelsea vs Manchester United: Preview, Possible Lineups & Prediction

Chelsea are set to host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, April 26th 2026. Kick-off is at 4:30 in the afternoon, which works out to 5:30 in the evening in West Africa time. Chelsea are looking for a win to bolster their Champions League qualification hopes – and Liam Rosenior has got a pretty good squad to do just that, but they’re going up against a Manchester United side who are still trying to get their season back on track.
Match Summary
Chelsea have been doing pretty well at home lately. They’ve won most of their recent games at Stamford Bridge in pretty convincing style, and they’ve got the attacking flair and midfield control to keep the opposition on their toes. Back in December 2025, they drew at Old Trafford 2-2, with Cole Palmer scoring twice. To be honest, a win in this one is going to be a huge boost for Chelsea’s Champions League hopes.
Manchester United, on the other hand, are sitting just outside the top six, and they’ve been struggling on the road this season. They do have some pacey players who can cause problems on the break, though. Traditionally, this fixture is a pretty intense and high-scoring affair, with both sides having plenty of chances to score. Expect Chelsea to have more of the ball, but United to look to catch them out on the counter. It’s going to be one of those matches where set-pieces and individual quality from key players could be the difference.
Head-to-head – these two have been going toe to toe in recent meetings, and you can expect a similar outcome this time around.
Possible Lineups
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Sánchez – the back four will be Gusto, Fofana, Chalobah and Cucurella – the midfield duo is Caicedo and Fernández – and up front, they’ve got Palmer, James, Neto and Pedro in various attacking positions – with Pedro at the point.
Liam Rosenior has got a pretty strong squad to choose from. Cole Palmer is the main creative force and goal threat – and he’s going to be supported by the solid midfield control from Caicedo and Fernández.
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): Lammens in goal, Dalot, Maguire, Martínez and Shaw at the back – and in midfield Casemiro and Mainoo will try and control things. Up front they’ve got Amad, Fernandes and Cunha – and Mbeumo leading the line.
United are going to be relying on experience at the back and some creative spark from Bruno Fernandes to try and control this one. They’ve also got pacey players out wide in Amad and Cunha, who might be able to catch Chelsea off guard.
Prediction
Right now, Chelsea’s home advantage and current form make them the ones to beat. They’ll be relying on Cole Palmer to once again cause problems for the United back line – and that might be enough for them to come out on top. Man United can be a bit hit or miss at times, but if they can catch Chelsea on the break – Bruno Fernandes might be the one to do it – but at the end of the day, Chelsea’s organization and attacking quality at Stamford Bridge are going to see them claim all three points in what’s going to be a lively match.
Final score prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Manchester United
