West Ham vs Wolves: Preview, Possible Lineups & Prediction

West Ham United are going to be hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers at London Stadium on Saturday, 18th April 2026. The whistle blows at 3:00 PM BST (which is 4:00 PM in WAT ) and a lot’s on the line.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s Hammers – who are fighting for their Premier League lives down at the bottom of the table – are going to need to pick up some points if they’re going to clear the relegation zone. Vitor Pereira’s Wolves, hovering above the drop zone themselves, arrive on the back of some pretty poor away form and are looking to get back on track.
Match Summary
West Ham are 17th in the Premier League with 31 points from their 32 games so far. And its fair to say they’ve been a bit all over the place on their own patch, even if they remain a bit of a handful to break down thanks to some strong set-pieces and a bit of old-fashioned physical play. When these two met up at Molineux back in December 2025, it ended all-square at 1-1.
Wolves meanwhile are in 16th place with a total of 33 points, but their away form has been pretty dismal – just 2 away wins all season. Its essentially a relegation six-pointer with both teams having plenty of motivation – and expect this one to be a real tight, intense and physical scrap that comes down to just a few moments or events unfolding in our favour. I reckon a low-scoring, scrappy affair is on the cards, full of long balls and counter-attacks.
Head-to-head: Lately it seems these two teams just can’t seem to separate themselves in matches against each other – loads of draws and narrow results – and over 2.5 goals is a pretty rare occurrence in this matchup.
Possible Lineups
West Ham United (4-2-3-1): Areola – Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Disasi, Emerson – Souček, Ward-Prowse – Bowen, Paquetá, Summerville – Fullkrug
Nuno Espirtu Santo’s got a solid squad to work with but I do think his main man is going to be Jarrod Bowen – hes the one who drives the team forward and scores the goals. Paquetá and Summerville add some flair in attack but I do think we’ve got a couple of defensive worries
Wolverhampton Wanderers (4-4-2 or 3-4-3): Sa – Semedo, Bueno, Toti, Ait-Nouri – Bellegarde, André, J.Gomes, Cunha – Strand Larsen, Hwang
Vitor Pereira is missing a few key players but still has the option to play a handful of pacey attackers. Jørgen Strand Larsen leads the line and hes got Hwang Hee-chan and Matheus Cunha offering pace and creativity on the break.
Prediction
This really is a massive relegation scrap where home advantage will likely be key. West Ham’s got some solid set-piece delivery and Jarrod Bowen‘s class has got to give them a slight edge over Wolves at London Stadium. But Vitor Pereira’s got some things up his sleeve – I reckon Wolves could nick a point or a goal on the counter through Strand Larsen, but I think the Hammers desperation does win the day. I reckon they’ll grind out a narrow winning result in a low-scoring encounter.
Final score prediction: West Ham United 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
