PSG vs Liverpool: Preview, Possible Lineups & Prediction

Paris Saint-Germain are taking on Liverpool at Parc des Princes on a Wednesday evening, April 8th, 2026. The ball is due to go up at 8pm CET (7pm GMT / 8pm WAT). This quarter-final leg of the Champions League sees the reigning champions and team to beat PSG, under the guidance of Luis Enrique welcome Arne Slot‘s Reds in a re-match of last season’s round of 16 showdown.

Last time around it was a different story – PSG came out on top but Liverpool will be looking to turn the tables and get the better of their hosts on the day and then go on to seal the deal on home turf on April 14th or 15th.

Match Preview

PSG are on fire right now – Ligue 1 leaders and reigning Champions League holders, after seeing off Chelsea 8-2 over two legs in the previous round. They’re a force to be reckoned with at home, with an impressive Parc des Princes record to their name – they’ve got a depth of attacking options and clinical finishing that makes them a real threat.

Meanwhile over in the Premier League, Liverpool are holding their own and pushed past Galatasaray with some style, but recent results, including a hammering at the hands of Manchester City, have highlighted some vulnerabilities on the defensive side and consistency away from home against the top teams.

So what can we expect from this one? An open, high-energy European night with plenty of action on both sides of the pitch. Both teams like to attack and play some nice football so a high-scoring game – both in terms of goals for and goals against – looks a good bet.

And what about the atmoshpere in Paris that evening… you can bet it’s going to be electric. PSG will be after a strong first leg advantage while Liverpool, with a few key stars on the counter-attack, may be able to punish any over-exuberance.

PSG/Liverpool Head-to-head: That re-match in the round of 16 last season was PSG‘s for the taking – but recent meetings have been tight, with both sides scoring a fair few goals.

Possible Starting XIs

Paris Saint-Germain (4-3-3): Safonov in goal, flanked by Hakimi, Marquinhos and Mendes at the back, with a midfield trio of Neves, Vitinha and Zaïre-Emery behind a attacking trio of Barcola, Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia. Luis Enrique has a full squad at his disposal, with minor changes possible. Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia offer a potent attacking threat, supported by the pace of Bradley Barcola.

Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili in goal, flanked by a centre-back pairing of Konaté and Van Dijk alongside Gomez and Szoboszlai and Kerkez in the full-back roles. A midfield duo of Gravenberch and Mac Allister will support a front line featuring Salah up front, supported by Wirtz/Szoboszlai and Gakpo in the attacking midfield roles, and Ekitiké up front. Arne Slot will need to manage his squad’s fitness levels and deal with a few injuries but one player in particular who’ll be looking to make an impact is Mohamed Salah.

Prediction

All things considered, PSG‘s home advantage, attacking firepower and previous experience in the Champions League should make them slight favourites to get the better of Liverpool. Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia are the guys to watch for PSG – can they cause problems for the Liverpool backline? Meanwhile, Salah is, as always, a one-man wrecking crew for Liverpool. A win for PSG – but a narrow one at that. Should be a cracking game to watch.

Final Score: PSG 2-1 Liverpool
