Chelsea vs Manchester City: Preview, Possible Lineups & Prediction

Chelsea vs Manchester City – Match preview and team news - Yahoo Sports

Chelsea welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, 26th April 2026 with a 4:30 kick off on a crisp spring evening. The 5:30 kick off in West Africa time will be a bit of a challenge for fans on that side of the continent, but that’s a whole different story. Liam Rosenior‘s Chelsea are in a bit of a scrap for that top four finish – or at least they think they are – and they will need to take three points off Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive.

Match Summary

Chelsea have been pretty good at home this season – and we mean pretty good – averaging a win in most of the games they play at Stamford Bridge. Their attacking play is pretty fluid and their midfield control is rock solid. But let’s not forget that earlier in the season they drew 1-1 with Manchester City at the Etihad – a real nail-biter with Cole Palmer rescuing a point late on. The Blues are really keen to get a big win in front of their fans this time round to give their top four hopes a bit of a boost.

Manchester City on the other hand are still plodding along at the top, but they do look a bit vulnerable away from home. They rely on dominance on the ball, loads of experience and a few key players to try and break down solid defences. This game is always a cracker – high scoring and competitive – and I reckon we can expect Chelsea to press high up the pitch and look to catch City on the break, while City will try and control the ball and nudge things through some midfield creativity. And of course set pieces and a bit of individual brilliance will likely play a bit role as well.

Head to head we’ve had some real barnburners of late – loads of goals and plenty of drama – but Chelsea have been getting a bit stronger against City at home lately.

Possible Lineups

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Sánchez – Gusto, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella – Caicedo, Fernández – Palmer, James, Neto – Pedro

Liam Rosenior will probably go with a strong side on the day – he’s got a bit of a reputation for that. Cole Palmer is a key player – he’s got loads of vision and can always pop up with a goal or two, and he’s got a solid defence to back him up.

Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Trafford – Lewis, Dias, Guéhi, Aït-Nouri – Rodri, Reijnders – Cherki, Foden, Semenyo – Marmoush

Pep Guardiola may do a bit of a shuffle but he’ll keep the core of his team intact. Omar Marmoush is the one leading the attack – always a threat, and he’s got Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki chipping in with a bit of flair and creativity from out wide.

Prediction

Chelsea’s home advantage and current momentum will probably make them slight favourites. Cole Palmer is looking pretty sharp and will be a handful for City’s defence – and then there’s the energy of Stamford Bridge to give them that little extra. But Manchester City have got loads of quality and the midfield control to really take it to Chelsea – especially through Phil Foden. Both teams will probably score, but in the end Chelsea’s organisation and that Stamford Bridge energy will probably get them over the line with a narrow but deserved win.

Final score prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Manchester City
